Dr. Danica Olenick
Equine Veterinarian & Practice Owner
Danica grew up in the Lower Mainland of BC. She was destined to become an equine veterinarian when, at age 4, she learned that horses had their own doctors. From that time, most of her goals and pursuits focused on that path. Danica attained her BSc. Ag. in Animal Nutrition while working with the Animal Welfare Program at UBC, after which she completed the DVM program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, SK. She accepted a veterinary position at Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital, in her favourite city, Victoria, BC.
The time spent working at ELVH, with some wonderful veterinarians and clients, gave her the confidence to pursue this little girl’s dream of owning an equine veterinary practice. Swiftsure Equine Veterinary Services started in 2012 as an exclusively mobile practice with a home-based office. Once the staff grew from 2 people to 4 people, it was time to move the office to a commercial space on East Saanich Rd. As the practice and clientele expanded, by 2020, with 3 veterinarians and 4 support staff, it was time to find a permanent home on McTavish Rd with a haul-in clinic.
Time has flown by, filled with exciting, challenging and gratifying experiences. Danica acknowledges and appreciates that SEVS' success is founded on the hard work and dedication of her passionate and talented co-workers and staff, the continued support of clients, friends and colleagues, and the collective pursuit of helping horses live happier and healthier lives. When you stop by the clinic, you may meet Danica's two miniature donkeys, Bella and Sophie, her big friendly dog Dahlia, or her active son Dawson, who, along with the farm and kiwi orchard, keep her going after the workday is done.
